Aha! Somebody else knows what I'm talking about! Have you ever seen one walking on their own? I only ever see groups of them.

Either they are Hutterites or Mennonites. Hutterite's are more likely to wear the head scarves. And Mennonite, the little white cap. Although, I've seen Hutterites with the little beanies. Hutterite and Mennonite's are almost pretty much the very same thing. Actually, I think Hutterites ARE Mennonites. Except that Hudderite's live in colonies.

Oh my gosh! I can't believe I didn't htink of that even after we talked about them in one of my cla__ses last year-it was on marriage and families in different cultures and religions. Anyways hutterites and menonites are two different groups, albeit similar in many ways. There are three types of hutterites-or groups. I can't remember exactly the names right now, but one group wears polka dot head scarves tied tightly, one group wears polka dot scarves loosely tied and the other group doesn't wear head scarves at all. The menonites-I can't remember if they wore scarves or not. Lissi is in the UK though and I don't think that they are over there. Maybe it is a similar religious group there?

Maybe they're orthdox jews? They tend to dress very conservative with long skirts and head coverings if they're married.

Orthodox Jews look way different. The married women usually are wearing a wig.

Not always, some orthdox jews just wear head coverings. Doesn't always have to be a wig, unless their hair is covered.

Ok, I was looking it up. Some Christian Fundamentalist groups have their women cover their hair. I found some pics of women with a white, triangular headscarf and very long (waist length or longer) hair, along with long dresses with long sleeves. There's a group in Scotland, too, so that might be why you see some in the UK. I started reading messages in a yahoo group about Christian women who cover their hair, but then I came to "this is not church, so the women may speak" and I decided that was the end of my research.
