Hi ladies. As a first-timer, I just wanted to know how long I can expect to bleed post-labour. I was planning on going back to the YMCA for strolleraerobics in the weeks following labour and wanted to know if we are ever allowed to wear tampons or if it's pads for the whole time? I haven't warn a pad in about 10 years so I'm really not looking very forward to it...

I remember bleeding heavily for about a week then it tapers and ended totally about 4 weeks. It was 9 and 11 years ago. First you will be told not to use tampons before your first post baby visit with your doctor. You also may find even if you try it just is not comfortable (if you deliver v____ally) as you are healing. Your doctor probably will not approve you going back to the Y until after this appointment...usually 6 weeks after baby is born.

I bled for 6 weeks after each of mine. I had all c-sections, whether that makes a difference or not I don't know. As tinkri said- no tampons.

the normal time it takes your body to heal, and usually it's recommended to wait this long before having s_x/ exercising/ resuming "normal" activities is 6 weeks. The reason why they don't want you to wear a tampon is because tampon can introduce infection if you're still healing. Congratulations on being so eager to get back and exercise after delivery! Wish you all the best
