Can Labour Stop In Its Tracks

I started labour on tuesday, going from 0 to almost 2 cm and 50 % effaced and contractions about 15 min apart. After about 4 hours they just stopped. Is labour still close by or am I still in for 3 weeks of waiting? (I'm only 36weeks 5 days)
