I am pregnant with my third and had to labors that were painful back labors. My friend recently gave birth and used hypnobirthing and didn't feel the contractions at all! I couldn't believe it. She called them surges and said they were a natural way to get the baby out and weren't painful. I had to get an epidural both times before and was thinking about trying this method this time. I have never had short labors. TIA for any input.

Me too! Do you have to hire someone to help you hypnobirth and how does it work?

Well at the maturnity center I attend, there is a hypnoses. He gives cla__s for anyone who's interested in the hypnobirthing. I hear that it's really good, but kinda expensive. It's basically preparing you for labor, all hyponotisum is, is getting you to think beyond what's really in your mind. Some people think that it's more to it. Hypnobirthing helps you to think positively, it's really all in ya mind if you think of it. The hypnobirthing gives you the ability to relax and clear your mind weeks before going into labor. The cla__ses prepare you mentally so you go in there with the intentions of no pain, that's why women don't feel the pain. It's not because they're hypnotised the way you think they are. If you condition your brain to one thing it will stick with it, that's why I think the cla__s is a waste of money for me. Some women can't get their minds off of being in so much pain before going into labor so hypnobirthing is good for them, but for me I'm not going in the labor room with the fear of pain, imma stay positive and relaxed. I'm goin in there with my mind conditioned already so I dont think I need the hypnobirth. But i wont knock it...I hear that it's really helpful!

I did the hypnobabies home study course, although I didn't get to finish it because my baby was taken early due to gallbladder problems. What I did learn helped me a lot though. My labor was induced at 7:00 A.M. waters broken at 7:30, contraction started at 8:00, at 11:45 I started pushing and 12:06 my baby was born. From the first contraction to the 10 cm. it was only 3 hours 45 minutes, and then 20 minutes of pushing. I did feel the contractions (surges, or pressure waves) and they hurt but I was able to get through labor with no pain relief and I didn't scream or cry or anything. My mom said that for someone who is usually so vocal it was scary to see me so calm during labor. I just layed on my left side and relaxed through the contractions. I think that relaxing really helped me to dialate faster. I also think that since the birthing experience was so calm it is part of the reason I have such a calm baby, she was never colicky or anything, Only ever cries when she is hungry. I did make noise while I was pushing though (not out of pain but out of exertion). I think I could have had a pinless birthing experience if I had been able to finish the course. I would definitely reccomend it but it takes a lot more work preparing than lamaze or anything like that (at least mine did) There are exercises, and scripts and a couple cd's a day to listen to and self hypnotise to, you have to practice self hypnosis 5 times a day... it's quite a bit of work preparing and it's not for everybody, you have to have a very open mind. If you have anymore questions, just ask :o)

I used Hypbirth (home cd program) and had a great labor, no drugs required, and I only had about 15 mintues of intense contractions/surges.

I think it's a great idea. I can't do anymore since I'm already 38 weeks, but I'm there with EmpressNnena. I have a very open mind and I was taught since I was a child that labor is not supposed to hurt like we see on TV. The contractions we have during labor are actually the same contractions we have prior to labor. They only hurt more if we think they should. I know I'm not prepared enough to not feel any pain, but I'm definetely prepared to be able to control and go through it without any pain medication.
