when do you consider your labor officially started? when people ask you how long you were in labor for...do you start timing from your first contraction? when your water broke? when?

I think it differs (I read long time ago (hehe) about a year ago) that dr. mesure from the time u r about 5cm dilated but i think one shoud start when you got contractions because they are 'labor'
