My third child (I have 5 and am pregnant again) was the only child that I broke my waters with. What happened was that I picked up my four year old daughter to take her to the bathroom in the wee hours of the morning. I hiked her up onto my 40+ week pregnant belly and WHOOSH! I don't know if the baby can do it from within though. I can remember clearly the feeling of being scratched from the inside and it felt like it SHOULD have ripped the bag, but it never actually did. with all the other kids, 4 of them, I had to have the doctor break my water bag. The doctors always have to use a fairly sharp instrument and they have to tug pretty hard as well. I think it is unlikely that your bag would rupture no matter how hard Jr. lunges if you are not ready to give birth soon. Good luck!

The amniotic sac is very fibrous and strong. Toward the end of your pregnancy, your body produces an enzyme that decreases it's strength so it will break close to or during delivery. I think it is pretty unlikely that baby can even scratch it's way out let alone push it's way out if the sac is not ready.
