i am a little confused bc i know of people that go into labor and are "dying" by the time they reach 3 or 4 cm dilation but i keep reading about people that are a few cm dilated for days or weeks, is it painful?

i am 38 1/2 weeks, dilated 1 cm, and 75% effaced. i was 1/2 cm dilated at 37 1/2 weeks. i haven't been in any pain just really sore and a lot of pressure down there! but i guess it's possible being that everybody is different! :)

With my second I dilated to 4 cm over the last couple of weeks of pregnancy before I even went into labour. I couldn't tell at all.

I am 38 weeks and have been 3-4 cm dilated and 90% effaced since before week 34. I was on bedrest for 2 weeks at the hospital and for 2 weeks at home. Baby has been at a +1 station that whole time as well. They would have me hooked up for the NST and I couldn't even tell when I was having a contraction. The nurse would say -" you are having one now do you feel it? Drink more water." This is my first child and I have had one crazy pregnancy - they say any day now . I am axious about labor and nervous but more anxious to meet my son. The way I look at it , if I am this far dialated and I haven't felt a thing, wouldn't that be great if the rest of labor was that easy. I am just thankful that I haven't had the labor pains this whole time. Good Luck.

I was just told I'm 1 cent dilated at 36 weeks & couldn't tell anything at all! I'm just happy we're progressing & that there's no pain. My baby is just as active as normal - I'm hoping labor will be this easy too! :-)
