Having Trouble Deciding

I am at 40 weeks with my 3rd. pregnancy. The first two were textbook deliveries, no complications & non medicated. This pregnancy, too, has been a healthy one but I am terrified of the pain I know is coming! I can't seem to get past it & let it go! I'm considering an epidural but don't know what that's like...have heard good and bad...any advice? Thanks!

Well, if your first two pregnancies were fine, then this one may be too. I would just say if you find the pain unbearable, ask for the epidural. The only thing I didn't like about the epidural was bloating. But after it was over, I the bloating left and I was fine. But for taking care of the pain, it's great.

I was in the same situation.I gave birth to two healthy boys in 1994&1996 and everything went just fine with no drugs at all.But I guess after 10 yrs the intensity of the pain must have slipped my mind b/c I ended up getting an epidural after saying that I would go natural. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.It took about 5 mins to put in,about 20 mins to take full effect and maybe a couple of hours to compltely wear off.The worst thing that I can say is that I now have an ugly scar on my upper back, where everybody can see b/c the nurse RIPPED the tape off of my back while taking the catheter out. That's about the only thing but the pain relief is priceless.Good Luck.

I had my first son natural (not by choice) and an epidural with my second son. And I have to say GET THE EPIDURAL! It was so much easier having a baby without all that pain.

I would get the epi. It doesn't make you feel totally out of it or anything - and for me, it basically just helped with contractions, which was such a relief. I think they were worse than labor!
