This is a hard question to answer. Some woman have long labors and others have short labors. If you want an epidural, it is probably best not to labor at home for too long....if you go in too late, you will not be able to receive it. But at the same time, they may turn you away if you go in too early....most places won't give you the epi. before 3 - 4 cm because it can slow down labor. some woman can labor at home for hours and hours and go in and only be a cm or two where as other woman may labour for an hour or two and be ready to push. I would say a lot of it would depend on if you are already starting to dialate......have you been checked yet? how far along are you? If you are already starting to dialate, then I definatley wouldn't wait that long after you go into labor..if you have not started to dialate yet, then you could wait a bit longer.

when my water broke I called the hospital. They told me to wait until my contractions were 5-10 minutes apart and lasted at least 45 seconds. If they were not coming regularly in 12 hours, then i was to come into the hospital. Good luck!

I got an epidural as well. My water broke at 8:30 am, got the epidural at 11pm, and delivered at 6:30 am the next day.
