Very Confused About Contractions

Im 38 and a half weeks pregnant. Ive never had a contraction.. not even the braxton hicks. Is this Normal???? Do all women feel contractions before labor? Also, is the mucus plug always going to come out blood tinged, can peices come out clear?

I was induced at 38 weeks, but until then, I never left any contractions. When I lost my plug it was milky white/clear with no blood at all. It came out it about 2 or 3 larger pieces.

I was due on March 29th, and here I sit, still pregnant! I haven't felt a single contraction either, and have only recently noticed some weak braxton hicks. AND I haven't lost my plug. I feel like I'll be pregnant forever!! The dr also told me that my due date was march 21st, dating by my 1st ultrasound because I have VERY irregular periods. Then the 21st went by and the dr told me that according to my 20 week ultrasound my due date looked more like the 29th. So it's been very hard for me because I expected to have a baby AGES ago :(. I feel your pain!

Oh, I feel so sorry for you lisamarie!!!! I can't imagine having no idea when it's really supposed to be born! It must downright suck! I'm overdue too, due on the 30th of march, I hope the wait isn't much longer : )

Hi Amber for my daughter I didn't feel any contractions at all didn't notice if I lost the mucus plug. My water broke 10 days before her due date I went in at 2am Monday morning was 3cm dialated they ended up giving me pitocin because I wasn't dialating any further by 4pm. I can guarantee you I felt the contractions then I even needed an epidural, which was actually a waste because it only froze one side of me. I am glad I still felt the contractions because I knew when to push. My daughter ended up being born At 8:29pm. With this pregnancy I have been feeling bh for the past month and a half even had false labor. Just goes to show you no to pregnancies are alike.

My daughter is 3 and when i had her i never felt the first contraction no bh nothin . even when the induced me they were already giving me pain medicine and then my epidural . i had no idea what in the world a contraction of any sort felt like until this pregnancy and i have been having bh for 6 weeks . Feel blessed that you have not had any of those contractions , they are not fun at all ... good luck

Hey AmberM, keep us updated on how your progressing. I'm 37 weeks and I think when I go in next week I may ask her to strip my membranes, I have had no contractions, BH, or back pains... nothing. But last time I went in I was 1cm dilated and 50% effaced, so somethings going on. Well good luck with everything and keep us updated!!

Thank you all for responding. Well here i am 24 hours after my doc appt where she stripped my membranes.. no mucus plug.. no contractions or cramps.. nothing happened so far. Im now 39 weeks pregnant and just wish i had a contraction or two lol, il even settle for the BH ones.

AmberM - April 8

Well now its been 48 hours since i had my membranes stripped... no plug no cramps and still no contractions.. i wonder if thats a sign im going to have to get induced... being in my 39th week you would think i would have had atleast one contraction?

C - April 8

I had braxton hicks and I thought they hurt until they induced me and then the contractions hurt really bad. It's funny becuase I can't remember what they felt like now. I just remember my back hurting really bad and laying there saying --I'm such a baby--. The funnier part is I can't wait to get pregnant again and bring another bundle of joy into our lives. The last few weeks are rough and then the first few weeks after they are born are hard too. After that it's the best thing in the world.

oh man! soo today i had another doc appt. Still havent had any braxton hicks or real contractions.. stripped my membranes for the second time about 4 hours ago... nothing. I have an induction date for next friday.. i reaaaally wish i could go into labor on my own.. ive tried everything

LaurieA - April 18

Amber, did you ever get any contractions or are you on your way in to be induced this Friday? I am in the same exact situation you are. My due date is Thursday, April 20 and I haven't had one contraction either. My doctor has stripped my membranes twice as well and nothing! Please let me know what you are going to do and how you make out!

I'm 38 weeks also and have never had any contractions (not even the Braxton Hicks).

I didn't have any contractions before being induced with either my first or second baby. I am due (yesterday) with my third and only this pregnancy have I felt contractions. In fact, I am already 3-4cm dilated. The plug can come out in one big piece or several. It also regenerates itself. It is usually blood tinged.

amberm...im guessing you had your long awaited contraction......congrats on the bubby :)

i am 39 weeks and 2 days and due nov.1st, which today is saturday. i am almost 2 cm dialated and completly effaced, this morning i went to the restroom and when i wiped i noticed some blood tinged mucous. this is normal but when i lost my mucous plug, i lost it for 3 days and it was clear and snot like. i have only felt small contractions so far but this is my first so i am not really sure what i should be feeling. but for you just know that everyone is different and you could lose you mp in pieces or all at once and it could be clear or brown. if concerned call your doctor or best of all just call the labor and delivery dept. they will have the best answers for you, and when in doubt just go to the doctor and get an exam, better safe then sorry and don't be embarrased to go for the smallest of things, i have been in l&d 6 times for scarecity of things, they are used to it and they deal with it on a day-to-day basis. hope i was of some help.
