You are not strapped down to the table. You usually are lying on the bed with the back elevated and the bottom of the bed elevated as well.

if you have your baby in a birthing center they have lots of options. they have birthing stools which look kinda like toilets with an open front. they use those to help you sit comfortably and let gravity help with the labor. they also have water birth where you go through labor in a tub (that helps relax you so the contractions aren't as intense). i had my baby in a hospital (not what i wanted) and i was on a bed and had to hold the back of my legs...it was pretty uncomfortable, but it was well worth it! good luck to you!

the way for me was the bed elevated at the top and the bottom of the bed went all the way down like a chair and i was reclined and had my feet in sterrups.

My nurses helped me try several positions and options (squat bar, side lying, all fours, birthing ball, etc.), but the one that was most comfortable was flat on my back in the bed with my legs pushed up by a nurse and hubby. It was exactly what they advised against in the birthing cla__s, but worked best for me.
