I had the mirena put in place 6 weeks after I had my daughter(April 2008) I had the same issues as you are having with the being sleepy, feeling sick and nothing ever came out of it. I didnt have a period for the length of time I had it in but did maintain a normal period when I had it taken out. You can still do a home pregnancy test and the Mirena will not give you a false positive. Good luck :)

Well, today 11/13/2009 I had another ultrasound and they was way off on how long I was pregnant I was 7 1/2 to 8 weeks pregnant and there was no heartbeat so I had to have a DNC because the marina was in the way of pa__sing it so they say.. So good luck to those who have the marina....

im irked as all hell, i feel like i've had symptoms of pregnancy, while on the iud, doctor says its nothing and I'm okay. Pregnancy test came up negative. I'm on meds by dermatologist, which are vibramycin and say they can cause less effextiveness to birth control. I've had a bangin headache for the longest, lower back pains, weight gain, can't fit clothes or zip up jackets. I'm losing my mind. I took the iud out Decemeber 18,2009 after reading this blog and seeing other peoples symptoms. I got it after i had my son January 2008, so like in February, my doctor said its unheard of and the medicine from the dermatolo9gist is cool to take, what can i do? how do i set up a ultrasound?

Interesting thread. Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to share their experiences; it's been very informative for me! I, too, am one of many that feels/have felt pregnant on Mirena. Nausea, headaches, cramping, fatigue, sensitivity to smells, cravings, tender b___sts, etc. And while I realize that many of these things can be attributed to on oncoming menstrual cycle, the thing that raises the alarm for me is that I feel what can only be described as light kicking. Basically, imagine what it would feel like to have a large(ish) fish swimming in your lower abdomen. I've been pregnant several times before and have always been the one to tell my doctors that *yes* I am pregnant. The urine tests (HPT and at Dr.'s office) all came out negative. Finally, I demanded a blood test and proved I was pregnant (I had even done a urine test at the Dr.'s office that same morning and it came out negative!). It took about 5 months before HPTs showed positive results for me, while pregnant! (I kept testing out of curiosity.) It seems to me from what I have read on this and other forums, that it is *quite possible* to BECOME pregnant on the Mirena- by that I mean the "egg" can become fertilized. However, REMAINING pregnant is the difficulty. Perhaps the egg can stick to the uterine wall for a short period before being expelled, as the Mirena makes it difficult but not impossible for it to do so. Normally, while on hormonal contraceptives, I have very light to no periods. So missing a period is *not* a warning sign for me. However, I have experienced with the Mirena feeling pregnant for several days and then having a horribly painful, thick, clotted, etc. AF three times already. Each of those times I *felt pregnant* for about 2 weeks before AF kicked in. I figure 2 weeks of feeling that way, is pretty average (just guessing here) for having what could be PMS symptoms vs. pregnancy symptoms. Anyway, it's been over a month of my feeling this way, and no sign of AF. At first, I thought that it was all in my head. "Pregnancy Paranoia", as another poster put it. Now, however, I'm certain somethings amiss, be it a pregnancy or some other issue; I plan to get to the bottom of it. I'll call my Dr. in the morning and I'll be sure to let you know what I find out. Regards, Xina

Hello. My name is Shayna and I'm 18. I'm really confused. In 2008, December I had a little boy. Its now 2010 and I got my mirena put in jan of 2009. No problems, regular periods. But the last 4 days I've had belly aches, aches when s_xual intercourse, peeing, eating more. Most of the same signs of pregnancy even moody but no b___st aches. Last period was May 27th 2010. So I'm not sure what to really think. Could I be pregnant?

hi there, i first got my mirena put in, dec 09. i bled for three weeks straight - found it so inconvenient as it was quite heavy, then it just stopped. I havn't had my period since start of feb 2010. This was supposed to help with my endomentriosis but lately i have also become very irratable, nausiated, feeling sick after every meal, and in imense lower back pain etc etc. I don't think i'm pregnant, as i believe from what the doctors told me before surgery, that these are quite common side effects. I have had a misscarriage before so i know that its pretty freaky thinking i may be pregnant again, as i have put on quite some weight last month, but i dont want kids at the moment. So I myself am questioning the effects of the mirena aswell. After saying all that, the best thing to do is if you think you're pregnant on the mirena, just try calm yourself and go see your doc and get some bloods done. thats what i will have to do and it's the safest way to be cause blood tests never lie :)

hey i had my iud in place in march i think. I always had my periods every 2 months. I had a period in nov. and then in dec. The one in dec. lasted for 4 days and then that same week i had bleeding. Only on the toilet paper. I feel sick, tired but of course i have a 13 month old, Sore b___st, and frequent urnation.

Michelle J, just wanted to say that BLOOD TESTS do lie, they did for both of my kids - it wasn't until I was almost 2+ months along that they would finally say positive, but any testing done before that would be negative.... same with urine (but that IS far more common) ... I am still reading posts, and I am going through the same thing, back pain, feeling sick, sore tender b___sts, moody, tired, frequent urinating, etc. I have went for my yearly and the OB/GYN couldn't find the strings, but after a ultra (trans-v____al) sound, it did confirm that the IUD was in place. Now just to clarify (my IUD is the low dose hormone 5 year) ... I don't know what to do because it seems that my appet_te has increased a bit and i lost weight before the Mirena was put in and now i have gained like 20 pounds in less than 2 months. My stomach is always feeling full and tight and hurts, it's also hard. Everything in the office says NEGATIVE but everything with my body says positive, I am feeling besides myself ... it was 1200.00 to get this put in and I am not wanting to go through anymore emotional or financial issues, this is enough!!!! Answers anyone???

I have had the mirena for about a year and a half. July would make 2 years. I know the nausea is normal when it is close to time for your cycle but it always subsides after you've had your cycle. I didn't have problems with back pains, not from the iud. I had back problems before I got the IUD I have 2 bulging disc in the lumbar (lower) part of my back. I have not gained weight due to the iud either. I have been around the same, but recently I have lost about 8 pounds. I am not sure when this came about because I feel that I eat alot and snack alot. And even when I only eat once a month my weight stays the same. I know because when I am in school I only eat like once maybe twice a day and I have been in school year round and I have not lost weight until now. I usually lose weigght when I first get pregnant instead of gaining. But lately the bottom of my stomach has been hurting. I have been feeling pressure with the pain also. I have been having pains around the sides also and like I have read previously in some of the post feelings of movement in my stomach. Light movement(b___terfly) and I have been brushing it off for sometime thinking and saying it is just gas. LOL!! I have 3 kids and the youngest is 2 years old. I don't want anymore any time soon and that was my reason for getting the mirena. But I have been feeling the same symptoms that I felt when I was pregnant with my yougest, before I found out that I was pregnant. Like alot of you I have had sickness, it started off as late night and early morning sickness. It is now to the point that I feel sick when I eat or drink certain things. I thought it was just from me being sick, because before the nausea got very bad I had flu like symptoms and it lasted for a very long time although I was taking medicine. But now I have gotten to the point that I am literally sleepy ALL DAY. I can sleep until 12 in the evening and when I wake up I am still VERY sleepy literally. I took a preggers test last week but I knew it would come back negative because like alot of you my pregnancy tests don't show positive until I am like 3 maybe 4 months pregnant. I have been light headed, dizzy, balance has been off and blurry vision are only some symptoms. I am going to contact my doctor in the morning to see what further steps need to be taken. My local clinic will not see me because I have a mirena. So I will let you guys know what the outcome is. Good Luck to you guys!!!

Hi, I need help badly. I am 17 and have had my Mirena Copper IUD since 8/19/09 and have constantly gotten my period. It either is very unregular and spotty, sometimes comes everyday for an entire month straight, extremely heavy, or doesn't look like a period color wise or texture wise, but then sometimes it does look like normal. (Will save you all the details) I am very nervous that this could may interfere with the effectivness of my IUD? Lately I have felt as if I am going to vomit, I have been peeing like crazy, craving weird food, become kind of moody, and my nose has become very sensitive. I'm kind of freaking out a little bit. I went to the doctor about 6 months ago as soon as my periods became severly out of wack. They did ultrasounds and the IUD is supposedly in the right place, nothing is wrong with my thyroid, and then I think they stopped taking me seriously.

1st TIME MOMMY - February 10

I've been on the IUD since June 2010 and I have to say I think that it has done me some good up until now, I don't know what it is but I really think I might be pregnant!! I do NOT want anymore children right now due to the jacked up economy. I think its time to go for the blood test Im nervious!!
