This is CRAZY..I started this diet called the HCG diet and its a fertility drug to help loose weight..well i'm on mirena. I have been on it for about 3 months now and have been on the diet for a month. I stopped injecting myself with hcg because i've been throwing up stomach acid in the morning same as I did when I was pregnat...not to mention I have a 4 month old daughter. I'm worried I might be pregnant..plus on top of it i've been talking fertility drugs for weight loss now i'm worried i'm pregnant with more than just one baby! I want more kids just not right now. My husband is leaving for Iraq in about 3 months and with our daughter I have now plus more babies if i'm preg I wouldnt be able to do it, I'm taking a test tomorrow but have a feeling its gonna be neg. I'm thinking all these symptoms we are having is just how mirena works..either that or we're all pregnant! Still i'm nervous I havent felt like this since I was pregnant :(

I'm going through the same thing right now. I got my mirena on 8/20/08 and i had my period in sep but for two months now i haven't had any period not even a little bit. I've had nausea, hungry all the time, tired, and b___st tenderness. I called my doc this morning and told them what was going on and he said it was normal but when i looked on the mirena website this is what it said: Missed menstrual periods. About 2 out of 10 women stop having periods after 1 year of Mirena use. The periods come back when Mirena is removed. If you do not have a period for 6 weeks during Mirena use, contact your health care provider. Call your health care provider if you have any concerns about Mirena. Be sure to call if you * think you are pregnant * have pelvic pain or pain during s_x * have unusual v____al discharge or genital sores * have unexplained fever * might be exposed to s_xually transmitted diseases (STDs) * cannot feel Mirena 's threads * develop very severe or migraine headaches * have yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes. These may be signs of liver problems. * have a stroke or heart attack * or your partner becomes HIV positive * have severe v____al bleeding or bleeding that lasts a long time * miss a menstrual period I've only had mine for a little over 3 months not a year. I also have a birth control baby (my oldest). Good luck

Wow, this is quite amazing. My son was born 12/10/2007. I've had Mirena since he was 2 months old. I have had weird symptoms in the past...but this last 6-7 weeks, things have been a lot different than they were before. I only bled lightly for one day in the beginning of November (2008) and have not had a period since then. That can be explained I guess. I have been EXHAUSTED...probably because of work/son/house/family/Christmas stuff...but, more exhausted than I should be. I'm eating like crazy. Could be explained because I'm trying to quit smoking. But...I feel like I'm starving right after I've gotten my belly full. My pelvis area feels firm and round (about 2-3 inches below my belly b___ton). That's strange. I feel this strange pressure/tingling where the IUD site location is. So...what's to believe? I just took a preg. test before that spotting incident in Nov....so it was probably at the end of October when I took 3 tests, which were all negative. I think I'm going to take a test tomorrow just to find out if I am....because something strange is going on, and I'm not sure what it is.

I have been ready all of these entries you have all been making. I am not trying to scare anyone on what I am about to tell you. I was doing some research the past couple of days because on Dec.31st I found out I was having an ectopic pregnancy. I had the IUD put in after my second child about a year ago. I decided with the Mirena with hormones because the birth control pill didn't work for me as I got pregnant on it both times. I started having really bad back pain and stomach pain the Friday after Christmas, I really didn't think anything of it. I was noticing it through out the week but thought maybe I was constipated. Embarresing as that is but that is what I thought it was. Dec 31st at work it got REALLY bad, I could not sit still. My sister recommended that I take a test. When I got home I took a test and it was positive. I automattically was concerned because I remember the Dr. saying that this could cause an ectopic pregnancy. To make a long story short I went to the ER and they did an ultrasound and that is what they found. I got sent my ambulance to another hospital where my OBGYN was at and they did a two hour surgery to remove the blood, fluid, and ma__s (baby) out of my left tube. They had to tie off my left tube because they could not get it to stop. I am know at risk to have another ectopic pregnancy and it will be harder for me to get preganant. They did take out the IUD and I am glad. This was very painful emotionally as well as phsyically. I recommend that you all speak to your DR about the Mirena and the possible side effect this could cause you. I am going to compain to the FDA because I have been doing research and I am not the only one that has been through this there are hundreds of girls that this has happened to. Please go take your tests and if you are pregnant call your DR or go to the ER right away if you are experiencing any pain, the DR told me a ectopic pregnancy could be life threating if it bursts. I am going to be checking this website and if you have any questions please ask and I will try and help. Thank you for reading!!!!!

I've been on Mirena since May, I had bleeding for about 3 months and then it stopped. I haven't really had a period since then actually. A little pinkish discharge sometimes but that is it. I also am having signs of being pregnant. Before when I was pregnant, my nose was so sensitive. For about 2 weeks now, I've been so sensitive to smells that some of them are turning my stomach. I mean chocolate which I love is making me want to gag! My back aches and I've just felt like junk for about a month, with either a head cold or body aches. I took a test tonite and it was negative, but I read somewhere on here that Mirena will make you show a negative test. I don't know. All I do know is that now is not the time, I'm getting married in April and do not wan to be pregnant.

I had my son 03/01/08. Had Mirena put in place about 2 months later... and I too am experiencing all the same symptoms u guys talk about.... except my stomach is also getting harder. I have taking a few pregnancy tests as well as gone to the doctor, who also said it was false. I don't understand it. I've also read on other sites that if you get pregnant while on Mirena that It is very possible to be pregnant with an ectopic pregnancy if you have an IUD. I was reading up on it and that is usually the case if you get pregnant with an IUD. So you need to see a doctor right away. Ectopic pregnancies often do not produce enough pregnancy hormone to be detected right away. Usually about 6 weeks after conception. I'm getting the b___st tenderness, and sensitivity, sleepy, nauseous all the time, very emotional over stupid little things, (sorry if this is to much info, but) a higher s_x drive... basically all the same syptoms I had with my son before I actually found out I was pregnant. I knew I was before I actually found out on a test. My stomach is even getting rounder and I'm gaining weight.... If I'm not pregnant... There's gotta be something wrong!!!! I plan on taking another test in the am, as soon as I wake up, then depending on how that one turns out, another one in about a week. I've also talked to a few people who have told me they have friends that have gotten pregnant while on the Mirena, and it had actually got embedded in the child's head cause it wasn't caught in time... Just another horror story, I don't know, but these days you can't be too careful. Good luck to you all....

Well, I took the preg test, and both came out negative. I'm still feeling the weird pressure and generally feeling like c___p too. I had even started Paxil for the depression I was having (mood swings...which is what I did when I was first preggo with my first). I also have constipation too...this is so weird. I'm going to the dr. on Friday for a metabolic check, so I will see if he will palpitate my stomach to see if he feels anything abnormal. Thanks girls.

I can't tell you how common or uncommon it is to get pregnant while on Mirena, but I just found out today that it happened to me. I got the Mirena placed in December of 2007, 6 weeks after the birth of my son. Immediately following insertion, the strings disappeared, and I was told the removal would have to be surgical. I bled heavily for 8 months all the while my nurse/midwife told me my periods should stop. I went to the doctor in September 2008, had a sonogram and scheduled the surgical removal. The Mirena appeared to be in the proper location so all seemed well. Then my insurance dropped me, so I cancelled the surgery. My periods also ceased that September. Finally, a few weeks ago, after at least 2 months of swollen b___sts and other pregnancy symptoms I went back to the doctor, and they did not even acknowledge a pregnancy, and scheduled me for a surgical Mirena removal and tubal sterialization. I was told that the pregnancy symptoms were due to the Mirena and my lack of a period. I went in for my surgery today, and the nurse came into my prep room with 3 positive pregnancy tests. So they told me to get dressed and go to my doctors office. There, a sonogram confirmed that I am 19 weeks pregnant. I didn't think it could happen, and I did not question my doctor when they scheduled my surgery without checking for pregnancy. I am already half way through my pregnancy, while I had every intention of tying my tubes and being done having children forever. Thank God the baby appears to be fine. But in the end, if you think you may be pregnant, please go to the doctor and insist that they do a pregnancy test. It absolutely does happen, and while I suspected a pregnancy and have had 2 children previously I still managed to get half way through a pregnancy not knowing.

WoW!! I am amazed by what I am reading. I, myself, am a mirena user and have been for 4 yrs and 9 months. Scheduled to have it removed on Tuesday...thank God. My problem is I have never missed a period or anything until January. I am now experiencing cramping and spotting off and on (was supposed to start on Jan 1). My b___sts are sore and I am so bloated!! I even swear I had fluid leak out of one b___st last night. I did take a pregnancy test at the beginning of January (when I was four days late) and it came back negative so I didn't worry. After reading all of these....I am scared sh******! The one lady that wrote about her strings missing.....I had the same thing happen in June/July. Went to the doc in August and they checked my IUD and it was in perfect place. Where the heck did the strings go. UGHHH...thinkin bout it makes me wanna barf.....any suggestions??

I have had mirena for almost 2 years, I haven't had any problem with it, I have been getting my periods every month except I didn't get it this month, then I noticed my stomach was starting to get bigger and I felt really hungary and I couldn't seem to get enough sleep, and i was tired all the time, I took 3 HPT and they all came back negative, I went up to the clinic yesterday and had them draw blood for a BPT, I should get my results back on friday and I will let you all know, if i'm pregnant or not. Here is something that I found while I was researching mirena: Mirena and Pregnancy Because no method is 100% effective, some women using Mirena will become pregnant. When this happens, one possibility is a septic abortion (infection in the uterus while pregnant), which is a leading cause of maternal death around the world. If pregnancy should occur with a Mirena IUS in place, it should be removed. This removal process may result in a miscarriage. However, not removing the device also increases the risk of miscarriage, as well as infection, premature labor and premature delivery. When pregnancy continues with Mirena in the uterus, long-term effects on the unborn child are unknown. Because synthetic hormones are being released right into the uterus, birth defects, and infant health problems are a possibility. Something the doctors failed to tell us when we decided to go on mirena, now if you can get pregnant on mirena what kind of birth control do they have us on. We all went on mirena so we wouldn't get pregnant and wouldn't have to worry about taking a pill or getting a shot. But what kind of birth control is this if we still can get pregnant.

Amanda - January 23

I have had Mirena since Sept (08), after ds was born in early Aug. I only had two periods, within two weeks of each other, within a month of the insertion. I haven't had another period since October, but I heard that that's relatively normal. Now I'm having nausea, migraines (every single morning), weight gain (ALL in the lower tummy area, 5-10 lb), metallic taste, pressure and occasional "flutterings", all of which I had during very early pregnancy with ds. I am scared to death. I have a dd and ds, only 16 months apart. I got this IUD because it seemed (after research and talking to doc) to be the best way to prevent pregnancy until my hubby's doc would let him have a vasectomy. We weren't planning on having another baby, especially not so soon! If we are pregnant, we'll be blessed, but I hope that nothing is wrong... Will take an hpt today and pray for the best.
