I haven't heard either way, but I"m sure that if your OB ordered the shots, they can't be harmful. I've heard of these shots being given to other women, and I haven't heard of anything negative about them. I'm glad you're ok now. Just relax, and take it easy. You still have a ways to go, and I'm sure that baby is quite happy where he/she is! Perhaps having mild contractions is just your body's way of telling you to slow down...at this point it's just carrying your baby around is like doing a mild workout. If you're doing too much, it's really hard on your body. Just slow down for a few days...pamper yourself...maybe get a haircut, or a manicure, and do something nice for Valentine's Day, and take a bath and just relax! You can do this...your body can do this. But stressing yourself out isn't good for you or the baby, so take it easy, ok? And it's really, really good that you feel comfortable enough going to labour and delivery if you have concerns. It sounds like there's a really good team of people in place there, which is one less thing for you to worry about! Best of luck!

Hey Goldfish, I received these shots with my last pregnancy, I haven't read anything controversial about them although I'm sure they have side effects. (To the mother more than the baby. Like shakes and stuff.) They hurt like hell. Well any shot hurts me like hell hehe, expect the 17p shots. The shots that I have heard really bad stuff about is the steriod shot to mature the lungs. Does something to the brain, but of course breathing is of most importance. The only reason I know that is because I asked my peri if I will have a steriod shot before my planned c section at 37 weeks and he said absolutely not and explained what it does to the brain. Anyway, hope I helped.

The shot they give you to reduce contractions is magnesium sulfate, a.k.a. epsom salts - very safe.

Goldfish, I have had these shots with every baby I have had and that would be 4 kids. I just got one last Monday because I was having preterm labor. If the shot is Breathin which is what I have always gotten then it hurts really bad when it goes in and it makes your body shake or more you hands and stuff. The only thing I have noticed with that shot is that when its time for the baby to come, they don't want to come. It could also just be me but that is what my experience is with the shot. Hope that helps.
