JULIA, it is effaced and that is great! I think all you guys have made more progress than I have, lol :) Could I possibly have dilated or effaced any and not feel it? I'm hoping to hear something good at my appt. Friday....I just don't feel like I've had any contractions or anything that is productive :(

but what does that mean?

hey. im new and im not sure who to ask but im 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced. does that mean i will be going into labor in the next day or could it be a long process? hoping u can help me

luckymenm23 - June 11

it could be a long process SOONTOBE ... We have a mom that is more then 50% effaced and 3-4 cm dialated and still nothing for her and its been a few weeks already ;(

JULIA - effaced means that's how much your cervix has thinned out - as the cervix opens and dilates it thins to allow room for the baby to come out so in order for you to push the baby out your cervix has to be dilated (or open) to 10 cm and completely 100%effaced - if you look at a photo you can see the cervix is pretty thick so once it thins and dilates you are ready to push - that's what labor is all about - it's the time your cervix takes to thin out and dilate....does that help? SOON - sadly - you could go into labor tomorrow or 3 weeks from now but it does mean that your body is getting ready - there is a June mommy who is 90% effaced and 3 or 4 cm and is still waiting for labor....so it means that something is happening but there is really no sure fire way to tell when you will go into labor.

Hey ladies! I have been having like really sharp pains like near my uh...lower part. I dont know if that is something...but it hurts...and has been happening a lot lately. It gets really tight feeling, and gets that shooting sharp pain down there. I just dont know what to expect. and I dont understand how you keep track of contractions either...sorry I am so ignorant about this all..lol. I have read things about it, but I still have no clue. But everything is good other then that. I have another doctors appointment on Friday..Yay I hope I am dialated and effaced and everything. That would be so great! You guys are so lucky you guys can have s_x to try an further along your labor lol. I wish..lol. Im walking around and stuff, I dont really know what else to do. 2 days till 37 weeks haha. I can't believe it! I wonder who is going to pop first. I can't wait to start hearing stories about it all.

cors1wfe - June 11

Hey Charli - that is normal....sadly it really sucks.....I have those pains every now and then...even though I am 37 weeks today I am willing to hold out until 39 weeks since my mom and dad will be here - the sooner the baby comes the sooner they leave :( so we can't have that ....LOL.....so now that I know they are coming I am so relaxed! I have a few days to get my house back in ship shape the way it was when she left....LOL....

Charlibabe - June 11

I figured it was normal...but I just dont know what it is, are those what contractions are like? I just want to know what to kind of expect when I start having contractions. It does suck though. Brooklynn is so big its starting to hurt when she moves around, plus she like grabs stuff from the inside lol...its wierd. lol Im glad your parents are comming Cors! Thats so exciting. My mom lives by me so I dont have to worry about her not being there.

cors1wfe - June 11

Charli this is how I tried to describe it to Julia real contractions start in your lower abdomen more close to your v____a and work their way up towards your b___bies.....and you can feel your uterus get really really tight......at least that has been my experience - I noticed that when I have braxton hicks my whole uterus just tightens at once and no gradual progression - I hope that helps - I tried to describe it as best as I could hope that helps

Charlibabe - June 11

Thanks Cors. I do think that may be what Im feeling...cuz thats exactly what it feels like to me. Scary!

cors1wfe - June 11

Of course but if that's what you are feeling make sure you time them and call your doctor if they get to 5 mins apart you might need to go to Labor and delivery....ok....??? Keep us posted.

Charlibabe - June 11

Okay I will...How exactly do you time them..just everytime you feel them to the next one? Im srry for asking such a dumb question. but they are fairly fair apart now...so I think it will still be a while still.

cors1wfe - June 11

exactly - from one end of one to the beginning of the next it's not a dumb question...no worries

Charlibabe - June 11

Man they hurt really bad...It hurts to walk even. Its giving me a headache. They are far apart though still...like 30 mins or so. Yuck this really really sucks! Worst part is I know you can have contractions for a long time before you actually go into labor, right?

KENDRA- so is the flooding where u live? how scary!!! OMG IM SO EXCITED!!!! ok for those of you that remember i was really sad months ago because i live in a very small apartment and it is a one bedroom. i didnt think i was going to have any kind of room for a crib..... WEEEELLLLL im stoked. i got my crib up today AND i got a crib set for 20 bucks at ross. so my dh and i just finished putting it together and next week im painting lylee's name on the wall...... i cant wait. im so excited, things are starting to come together. CHARLIE- there is no stupid question, yes you can contract for awhile before you delever, is this your first baby? usually it takes longer the first time as oppose to the second or more.
