2nd Birth Easy As First

With first child I had a 8 min. delivery and 3 hr total labor. No pain meds. He was truly a fairy tale pregnancy. I'm now 29 weeks and this baby has been totally different from first. First one -no problems except discomfort the last week of pregnancy. This time-I have had every annoying pregnancy sympton to the extreme. They say the first child is the hardest, but I'm not in as good physical shape as I was before. Also I've already gained 26 lbs. I only gained 23 total with my first. I had such a good pregnancy the first time, I'm worried that this nightmare will continue to labor. Do you think my labor will be easy this time too?

i'm not sure i have heard that 2nd delivaries are suppose to be easier but there are always exceptions to the rules i also had a rather easy first labour and i am crossing my fingers that it will happen again but it is suppose to so i am sure it will for both of us!

Hey Athenajack...i feel exactly like you!! my DD was only a 2 1/2 hour labour and about 5 minutes of pushing...i am petrified this one will be harder!!! i mean really!!! however my pregnancy was alot more 'traumatic' with the first, for the first 4 months i cudnt get out of bed whereas with this one i feel fine! my mum has always had fast labours...out of 5 kids her longst was 2 1/2 hours so i guess i'm hoping i'm the same! fingers crossed for both of us!!!!

Sounds familiar - my 1st was a 2 hour labour, what felt like a 2 second delivery - no pain relief needed..My 2nd preg was a lot different - I'd had slightly elevated bps with my 1st but nothing major...with my 2nd they went loopy, I was spending every other weekend or so in the hospital being monitored, eventually went into pre-eclampsia...But again the labour and delivery were quick and easy and no meds needed...My3rd was a touch longer - probably about 3 hours from start to finsh, no pain meds but Iwas sooo upset at how long it took...How silly was that?? I was bored witless! Dare I say that??? And my 4th, almost 11 weeks ago...was super fast and the m/wife only just caught my son before he hit the floor! It was that fast! I'd only been in the hospital 30 mins! So I guess while it might not be as easy, chances are your body has a higher pain threshhold and it now knows what to do, so it should be just as easy...But worrying about it could make you tense up , then it could change! Good luck!

Well My first was exactly like yours.... 4 hour labor... total including delivery... With my daughter it was a 10 hr labor however it was a 1 minuter delivery.... If I could of had my sons labor and daughters delivery wow it would be Great but lets get real... that doesnt usually happen.... Every baby is different...This one may be longer but it may be extremly easy... I liked my daughters labor and delivery and hope to have it easy with this pregnancy.... So good luck.. I

Hi Athenajack... I would have to say that my first one was fairly short but my second was alot shorter and i just had my third and it was hell.. it was my longest labour and the most painful but the shortest for pushing...20 minutes... i always heard that the third was hard but never really thought much cause the trip down has been taken already twice before welll i was wrong not to listen.. i hope your second one was as good as your first.

oh my gosh my second was shorter AND much much easier than my first. My first child was 9 lbs and my second was 7 lb 13 oz so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. I was not as heavy when I delivered my second son. I pushed two times with my second and he was out. If your labor went that quickluy the first time you better SPRINT to the hospital this time!

My second was a million times easier than my first, although DS pooped before he was born so the whole neonatal unit was on hand when he was born. 'From my first contraction to the end, was about 1/2 longer the second time but I found it less stressful and I was a little more prepared this time. I notice some answers saying the third was the worst.....could you explain further please? I'm on my third and really looking forward to delivery, because then I'll actually be able to meet our little girl and it'll be like 2 days off! Resting in the hospital while someone else looks after the other two? I can hardly wait!!!!

DeeD - September 10

My second and subsequent deliveries were way easier and faster than the first...I am sure it just depends...

I wish I could say yes. My first was a dream even though he came early. No pain, just spotting so went to get checked over (had a bleed at 29weeks and was warned to look for blood again) and by the time I got to the hosptial was 6cms dilated, my waters had apparently 'gone' (I would love to know where!!) and I delivered him two hours later. My second! If I had had him first there would have been no others. I was in labour for two days, when I told them I felt someting was wrong they ignored me, I didn't dilate, his heart rate dropped to 60BPM and they broke my waters (I was only 4cms) I went straight to ten, they had me sign for emergency C-section and the next his heart rate went up and I delivered him normally! With my third I had to be induced (cholestasis) and it was a very good experience and fast labour. All my pregnancies were different, all my labours were different, all my children have VERY different personalities. It will be interesting to see how my next on will go in about 3 months!!!

I hope for your sake it is! I'm expecting my first in November and am SO glad to hear your first was such a perfect pregnancy...there's hope!

I just had my 2nd. I have to say my first was about a 12 hour labor (12 hours of contractions that were painful anyway) and about an hour of pushing, with an unwanted episiotomy and vaccuum helped delivery. The recovery sucked and i felt like c___p for 2 months after my first! I just had my 2nd, and i was in painful labor for about 10 hours and pushed for MAYBE 10 minutes. I didnt have an episiotomy, or any interventions whatso ever!!! I even delivered in a squatting position and helped catch my baby. I only tore a tiny bit on the left labia (seems like an odd spot) and i got one st_tch this time instead of about 20. I thought both of my labor and deliverys were fairly good- and my 2nd one was great! I had one shot of demerol with my 1st, and Nothing at all with my 2nd,- i definately prefered nothing at all- i was totally aware the whole time!

When I was in the hospital with my second the OB and the nurses all said that the second time is almost always longer and harder than the first. I was suprised to hear that! I think it has something to do with the lack of muscle tone caused by the first pregnancy, labor and delivery. I had about 13 hours of labor followed by 3 and 1/2 hours of pushing. No pain meds, and it took three loaded needles to sew up the tearing. Even after all that I have to say that it was a great experience and I'm glad it went the way it did!

gosh your guys are lucky, with my first my daughter it was 20 hours start to finish, i tried to go natural but at 9 cm i got stuck cause i couldn't relax and had a epidurial, and then had 2 and half hours of pushing and they had to use a vacc_m to help. i am 14 weeks pregnant with #2 and hope things go quicker and i get the epidural earlier
