I am 38 weeks and had an appt today. The baby is already engaged and I am 1 cm dialated and my cervix is still a little thick. My midwife suggested I use evening primrose oil to help my cervix thin out. Has anyone tried this? if so, about how long after you started taking it did things start to happen? Thanks for your help!

I took the primrose. I started it at 34-35 weeks and went to 42 weeks and 2 days. so it didnt really do a thing for me but then again everybody is different. I was induced then had to have a c-section.

I just lose my mucus plug, tonight I had planned on applying it directly to my cervix. Now I don't know if I should. Like I said yesterday, for the last two days I took it 3 times daily, plus rubbed it on my stomach.

I took it orally- 3 capsules a day- when I was pregnant with my 1st child. It helped my cervix to efface an extra 30% in bout 2 weeks time. I knew I was going to be "overdue" my doc did NOT calculate my due date correct (I was virgin & we got pregnany on our honeymoon- the due date they calculated for me would have placed me conceiving 5 days before I got married). I also hear of poking a hole in a evening primrose capsule & applying the oil directly on your cervix helps- BUT I will mention that the prostaglandin from s____n is a much higher percentange & works much better for thinning the cervix out than evening primrose oil. If you can, try to have s_x regularly.
