hi i'm 35.5 weeks along (first timer) and last night i had the worst pain ever in my belly and back. felt like period cramps with a added charlie-horse. it hurt bad enough to wake me up 3 times during the night. are these contractions real or practice ones? anyway to tell?

At 35 weeks I had what your having at night, and now at 40 weeks they are more frequent and more painful. The difference between the real ones and the practice ones is that the practice ones will go away if you change your position the real ones will not no matter what you do. Also the real ones will be consistant, usually coming like every 10-20 min apart or less.
