I'm 39.5 weeks, and plan on having a v____al birth. I've had something similar to a c-section before, except mine was a little worse probably, and I never, EVER want to go through that again. (I had an ovarian cyst, a huge 9lb one, and had to get that and my ovary removed) i had an incision that covers half of my stomach. Recovery time sucks. But, I'll see in a few days (hopefully a few days) what its like having a v____al delivery, then can compare the two

jenny I expect you have had your baby now, wonder if you still read this,I just had my baby by elected c section, the cord was around his neck.I was so scared, but I need'nt be it was the most happiest day of my life, wide eyed when the baby came out,and the recovery was not bad.

I am thinking of a section,is it really great?

to kc - October 3

yes,it was fantastic,I did not have to suffer from people checking me,trying to talk me through painful labour,I relaxed whilst they did the work, got the baby, then took it easy the next few days,a section is great.

I just had a baby and agree with the last posts.I had a planned section,my choice.I am delighted with it,more controlled, even enjoyable, and the recovery not bad afterwards.I am so glad I did not go through labour.

ive put on 21 kilos and am uncomfortable, im 37.5 weeks and cant wait to see my baby but a c sec for me would be a last resort, 6 weeks not driving, major abdominal surgery, no thanks, god made us this way for a reason, natural birth helps the child, squezes the lungs and probably mentaly prepares it for life, I cant wait to feel this amazing natural part of bringing my baby into this world, however painfull, why are you trying to self induce at 36 weeks? are your needs and impatientness more important than your baby? listen to your doctor

marcie - October 5

lisa,I have had a natural, and section. The babies were both fine, also don't forget the baby can go through trauma with a natural birth if it gets stuck, and it has to be pulled out,as soon as you hear the baby cry when its lifted out of you,it is magical, plus you are feeling on top of the world,it was so much better than my natural birth when I felt in pain, nothing was working, and afterwards felt sore down there.People have operations all the time, advances etc,I would not hesitate again, and can understand why celebs choose this method.

Kimberly - October 5

I posted before, but wanted to let you know that I have done it both ways now. My son was born on Monday--8lbs. 2 oz, 39 wks, 4 days. I had one shot of a narcotic pain reliever when I was dilated to 6, but other than that it was completely natural. I'm home with him, I'm up and around. I won't lie--I am sore below, but there is NO comparison. He is nursing well, I'm eating what I want--I know it is a personal choice, but the 22 hours of labor I went through were well worth the benefits now. And I love knowing that my body worked exactly like it was designed to--amazing! I actually got to reach down and deliver him myself. Best of Luck!

FEW MORE WEEKS MY WIFE DOING TO DELIVER TWIN BABYS. YOUR ADVISE ,SHALL WE GO FOR CECAREAN OR NORMAL BIRTH.OUR FIRST BABY.TQ

marcie. - October 11

It is obvious what advice I will give you,go for the section, especially with twin birth.I know a friend who did have a natural birth with twins, but there is obviously more risk. With a planned one, believe me it is so enjoyable, you don't have to see your wife wincing or screaming in pain,or sucking on the gas and air like her life depended on it,you can hold her hand,as my husband did, whilst your new life is raised up and out. Also an emergency section can involve more problems afterwards, why go through labour, then very possibly wheeled into theatre for one reason or another? I really would go for the section, the pain afterwards is not as bad as some say.For me,as I say,the pain from the v____al,all the stretching, feeling like being ripped apart, awful.

Kimberly - October 11

Despite the fact that I am a huge proponent of natural birth under most circ_mstances, and have done things both ways, I did deliver my twins by c-section, and would probably do so again. There are enough risks to the second twin to warrant a c-section in many cases, although many women do deliver twins v____ally just fine, and have a much easier recovery because of it.

To Marcie:I think you compare your c-section to an outpatient cyst removal. If you were "screaming and writhing" in pain someone didn't adequately manage your labor. At my medical center we do not allow our laboring mothers to get that far gone, we are attuned to how our patients are handling their labors and intervene with proper meds and/or positioning before they get to an unmanageable level. How come you don't say how cheerfully you walked right after your fabulous c-section? Did you jump right in the car and go home and do household chores? If I hadn't had a c-section myself I would think I could go home and host a party, but since I had one I truly needed, I know better and I would never tell someone they are "great". I guess an appendectomy is great too. How about a little gallbladder surgery for fun? I understand you preferred a c-section in your case but your enthusiasm is not entirely believable, nearly all of the patients I care for are surprised and dismayed by the post-op pain and infirmity. I think you demanded one and now feel you have to justify it by being overly positive about it. To Jenny, please do not self induce a month early, babies often have lung problems that early and if you insert something into your v____a or cervix you may introduce bacteria that can threaten yours or your baby's life. Wait for good old labor to start and trust your body, most women do just fine. A reputable surgeon does not take healthy babies from healthy mothers 4 weeks early. Good luck!

Its like anything, you can have good or bad experiences with a v____al,or section.I had a section, and like marcie delighted with the whole process.I liked the fact you had a date, the week before your due date,,none of this waiting for the labour pains,in the op,I felt just tugging,no pain, and the surgeons very understanding, the recovery not as bad as people said. The nurses there to help, and if I felt pain, asked for the meds, getting out of bed for the 1st time took patience, but giving birth is no breeze either.I would opt for a section again,I would'nt want a v____al birth. Its geting more commen,so I don't dwell when people say its major surgery.I understand why people opt for this procedure.More and more we are getting involved in medical interventions,be it epidural, treatment for cancer, where they don't have a choice but an operation in the hope that the cancer has not spread,at least there is a recovery!I undrstand what marcie said.I loved my section.I just took things a little easy afterwards, but I was more than happy with that idea.

jenna - October 21

for me,it would be choose a medicated cesarean if you can,no labour pains, and its not bad afterwards in recovery.

marcie to the nurse - October 24

with my 1st,natural labour, the pain meds did'nt take. The gas and air did'nt seem to do much, another they tried did'nt take. The nurses, yea doing a wonderful job,but seemed to be rushing about, and it made my panic a bit,I also felt alone, and the pain was so intense and remembering wondering how labouring mothers can forget that pain,no way was I going to.Labour pain is renound for such pain and I can see why.The section was a different positive story, everything planned, and relaxed as much as you could be.The recovery was actually not as bad as I thought.Ok getting out of bed for the 1st time was a little tricky, but with the pain meds it was managable, and in no way as bad as the natural birth,or the discomfort I felt afterwards.I went home and took my time, which was great, and it was great.I had my husband to help, and glad to take it easy.I can say I loved the section, any birth you are going to get pain, but the section was tolerable and actually enjoyable.
