Development Week 25
Your baby's fully developed hands, complete with tiny fingernails, are now feeling the surroundings, including his own skin and even the umbilical cord. Your baby's dexterity is developing, too - fingers can now curl into a fist.
You may notice that your baby has resting and alert periods. You'll notice fetal activity more readily when you are doing sedentary activities. Your baby's hearing has developed, too - she may now be able to hear your voice! The structures of the spine (33 rings, 150 joints and 1000 ligaments) begin to form. The blood vessels of the lungs are developing and the nostrils begin to open. Your baby should be weighing about 1 pound 9 ounces at this stage.
Trying to Eat
Pregnancy can cause some unpleasant side effects when it comes to digestion and meal time can take on a whole new meaning when your are 25 weeks pregnant. Not only does the hormone progesterone slow the emptying of the stomach (to allow for increased absorption of nutrients for your baby), but your expanding uterus is putting increased pressure on your intestines. The result: indigestion and heartburn that can make eating your favorite meals a nightmare.
Try eating smaller, more frequent meals and avoid spicy and fatty foods. You should also still be keeping a look out for those premature labor signs. And if you find yourself feeling the urge to decorate, don't be surprised; you're nesting instinct may just be kicking in. Most mothers are now busying themselves with nursery decorating and baby furniture. Organizing the new nursery for the little one, so that everything is in order for when the baby arrives home is just a common way of fulfilling that nesting urge.
