Development Week 26
Your baby is now weighing about 2 pounds (760gm) and measuring about 14 inches (35cm). This week the air sacs in the lungs begin to develop. Your baby will also begin to have brain wave activity and will start to hear and respond to noises, both internally and externally.
Although your baby's eyes have been sealed shut for the last few months to allow the retinas to develop, they are opening and beginning to blink this week. Depending on ethnicity, some babies will be born with blue or gray-blue eyes (which may change color in the first 6 months of life) while others will be born with brown or dark eyes. Eyelashes are growing in as is more hair on the head.
What's Up With You
While you may find it hard to believe that you are 26 weeks pregnant, it is true! As many of the discomforts of pregnancy, like leg cramps, continue and even get worse, others may begin to subside, like your mood swings. You may also find yourself growing increasingly anxious about the future and what your labor will be like. This is perfectly normal.
Another common symptom of pregnancy - being bored with being pregnant - may hit you during this time. You may find it tiresome that your pregnancy is all anyone wants to talk about these days. If it really bothers you, then just steer the conversation away from anything related to babies.
